About
“The Name Escapes Me” is a collective of artists, and people who do not typically label themselves as artists, expressing their creative voice through site-specific multimedia installations.
Its commitment is to foster modular scalable art through self expression. This vision enables a growing number of artists to participate under one curated concept by each submitting a rectangular capsule. This capsule concept allows flexibility in use, site, project scale, as well as a welcomed challenge for artists to work in such format. In 2019, the focus was for artists to design individual vessel’s representing a period of time in their life.
“The Name Escapes Me” collective started in 2016, faced with the perpetual perplexing inner dialog one has when asked if one is an artist, saw the need to create easily expandable art installations to encourage others to reclaim the language of Art we are all born with naturally.
In a time when many areas, including art, is often closely associated with branding, the name of the collective project comes as a current counter-culture allowing the pieces to speak for themselves and granting their enjoyment strictly by one’s experience upon its viewing rather than informed by any preemptive knowledge of content.
in 2016, the newly formed “The Name Escapes Me” collective decided to address the complex and perpetual inner dialog one faces when asked, "Are you an artist?” This mission has always been about creating efficiently, expandable, art installations, encouraging others to reclaim the language of Art we are all born with naturally.
From its first small scale discreet and renegade conceptual art installations, “The Name Escapes Me” is emboldening itself with growing footprints. The latest installation in August 2019, spelled out “L I F E” with letters made of rectangular capsules that were embedded in the desert ground and submitted by 12 artists.
The blank canvas of Black Rock Desert during the Burning Man event was the initial impetus. The scalable and portable capsule concept makes “The Name Escapes Me” most adaptable to any location, city, and landscape.
For Summer 2020, “The Name Escapes Me” collective is designed to map out a large geometric mandala gathering a greater number of artists, creatives and art makers.
